Theft Auto 2 - Demo Download and Information
Welcome
to the GTA2 Burnout demo download page, where you can find out all the
info you need to know about this recently released preview of Grand
Theft Auto 2. Unfortunately, the demo is time-limited to just six minutes,
so you only have a short amount of time to explore the game. You will
be able to carry out six easy missions, two each for the Zaibatsu, the
Loonies and the Yakuza gangs. Before you begin, you should take the
following things into account.
The
demo is approximately 12.3 MB in size, which is a fairly drawn out download.
Before you begin, I recommend that you fire up your Download Resuming
program if you are not using the Gigex installer, as you don't want
all the time you spend downloading to go to waste (I recommend GetRight).
If you don't have a download resuming program, that's okay. You can
use the Gigex download option, which is a small program which acts as
a one-off download manager for the GTA2 Demo. You will be able to resume
your download with this program.
These are the system requirements
for the demo. If you know your computer has no chance of matching these
specs, well, you can join me and probably a number of other people sitting
around drooling over screenshots from the net :) (Yes, I was stupid
enough to spend two hours downloading the demo on a 200MMX non-Pentium,
non-3D accelerated computer).
Pentium 200 Processor or
Higher (though reports say that it will work on at least a 120 Pentium
Processor)
DirectX 6.1 or Higher (get
it at microsoft.com)
A 3D Compatible video-card
(at least 4MB)
Any DirectSound compatible
sound-card
At least 40MB free Hard
Drive Space and probably 32MB of Ram at lowest

Known Demo Bugs and Annoyances
Demo won't run from Start Menu or Shortcuts: A common
problem, which is relatively easy to fix. Instead of running the demo
from these locations you need to physically find the GTA2 Demo Folder
on your Hard Drive and run the executable file, which can be a pain.

Keyboard
Error Messages:
If
you are getting keyboard error messages and you can't play the demo,
try changing the keyboard settings in the Control Panel to the English
Settings.
Video
Card Problems:
ATI Rage Pro
- make sure that "Special Recognition" is selected on the video
tab in GTA2 Manager Permedia 2
- make sure that "Special Recognition" is selected on the video tab
in GTA2 Manager NVidia Riva 128
- with this chipset, on-screen sprites can be displayed incorrectly
in GTA2. To solve this:
- make sure that "Special Recognition" is selected on the video tab
in GTA2 Manager
- go to the Riva 128 tab on your display properties (get this by right-clicking
on your Windows desktop).
- select "More Direct3D" - change "Non-Filtered Texel Origin" to be
"Center(x=texel/2,y=texel/2)" not "Upper left corner(x=0,y=0)".
